Preoperative needle and wire localization at Vero Radiology

PREOPERATIVE NEEDLE AND WIRE LOCALIZATION

Accredited by the American College of Radiology

American College of Radiology - Center of Excellence This procedure is performed prior to breast surgery to help the surgeon locate abnormal tissue. Needle and wire localizations can be done under mammography, ultrasound, or MRI guidance. An initial image is taken to identify the target area. The breast is cleansed and anesthetized to minimize discomfort. The radiologist then guides a small needle and places a localization wire into the abnormal area; images are obtained to confirm accurate placement. The wire is secured to the breast and the final images are sent with you to the surgery center.

Please contact your surgeon for specific instructions prior to the procedure.
