COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY CT

Overview — CT imaging, also known as CAT scanning (Computed Axial Tomography), is a highly sensitive technique used to view internal anatomy and detect very small lesions. CT images soft tissues and bony structures and provides a 360° view for evaluation.
Scanner — Vero Radiology offers the GE Lightspeed 64 slice VCT. The ultra‑fast spiral scanner can scan three times faster without compromising resolution. Whole body scan times are typically 30–60 seconds.

- Virtual Colonoscopy
For patients requiring CT guided biopsies, our registered ACLS nursing staff will assist during and after procedures.
CT Exam Prep
Any patient over 40 years old — If you are having a CT with IV contrast you must have blood work including BUN and Creatinine within the last 90 days.
For all CT exams — Wear minimal metal or jewelry on the body part to be scanned (zippers, metal buttons, necklaces, etc.).
CT with IV contrast (iodine dye) — No solid food 4 hours prior to the exam.
CT Abdomen and/or Pelvis with Oral Barium Contrast
A.M. Exam (Before Noon)
- Clear liquids only 4 hours prior to exam
- Drink one bottle of oral contrast at bedtime the evening before the exam
- Drink a second bottle one hour prior to the exam
- Just prior to the exam, you will be asked to drink an additional 4 ounces of contrast
P.M. Exam (After Noon)
- Clear liquids only 4 hours prior to exam
- Drink one bottle of oral contrast at 6:00 a.m. the morning of the exam
- Drink a second bottle one hour prior to the exam
- Just prior to the exam, you will be asked to drink an additional 4 ounces of contrast

Patients will be notified and given specific instructions by our nurse the day before the exam.
VIRTUAL COLONOSCOPY
Patients need to purchase Movie Prep at the pharmacy. Stop by Vero Radiology for a prescription, a $20.00 rebate coupon and instructions at least 24 hours before the exam, or obtain a prescription from your physician.
CT Biopsy Required Labs and Instructions
- Patients will be contacted and given instructions by our nurse the day before the appointment.
- Arrive 1 hour prior to procedure time.
- Patients will not be allowed to drive after the procedure; arrange transportation in advance.
- PT, PTT, INR and CBC with platelet count must be done within 2 weeks of the scheduled exam.
- If on Coumadin, stop 5 days prior; repeat PT, PTT and INR 24 hours prior to procedure as instructed.
- Aspirin products, Vitamin E and anticoagulants (e.g., Plavix) must be discontinued 5 days prior to the procedure.
- Fasting 6 hours prior to the procedure is required except for medications; a nurse will provide specific instructions.
- Please contact your physician before discontinuing any medications.
